OUR SHIFT IN FOCUS

January 1, 2026

Principis Group was founded in 2015 during a period of rapid body-worn camera adoption across the law enforcement profession. At that time, agencies primarily needed assistance with implementation, policy development, and training as they stood up new programs and worked to meet emerging expectations.

As body-worn camera programs matured, the challenges facing agencies changed.

Video volume increased dramatically. Supervisory workloads expanded. Public-records and discovery demands intensified. Review practices varied across units. Accountability expectations grew more complex. New technologies—including AI-assisted review tools—introduced both opportunity and risk.

Agencies were no longer asking how to deploy cameras.
They were asking how to govern them.

Over time, it became clear that training alone could not solve these problems. Policy alone could not solve these problems. Technology alone could not solve these problems. The greatest risks agencies faced were no longer related to implementation—they were related to governance.

Principis Group intentionally evolved in response.

Today, the company operates as an independent advisory practice focused on body-worn camera governance, supervisory review models, and organizational risk management. Our work centers on helping agencies design clear operating structures, apply policy consistently, preserve professional judgment, and document decisions defensibly under legal, public, and operational scrutiny.

This shift reflects focus, not departure.

What has not changed is our commitment to independence, practical realism, command-level experience, and respect for the complexity of modern policing. What has changed is how we apply that experience—moving beyond program startup and training toward governance frameworks that help agencies sustain accountability at scale.

As body-worn camera programs and oversight expectations continue to evolve, Principis Group exists to help agencies govern that complexity deliberately, responsibly, and defensibly.
